Book Week Events
Book Week- Monday 23rd – 27th August
The theme for Book Week this year is ‘Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds’.
PLEASE READ as we have a few changes to our events this year:
Book Week Parade- Wed 25th August
Commencing at 9am at our school hall, you are invited to attend the annual Book Week Parade. We will celebrate the fun of dressing up, creativity of costumes and participation in the parade and sharing their costume inspiration.
Cake and Bake Stall- Mon 23rd August
Our Year 5/6 students will whip up cakes to display in the Library inspired by a favourite storybook. Students can purchase a piece of cake for a gold coin at recess.
Author Visit- Shelly Unwin- Thurs 19th Aug (Years Kinder – 3/4)
Next week, Shelly Unwin is coming to St Thomas More’s. Shelly is a children’s author, speaker and Australia Reads Ambassador. Shelly is the author of Blast Off!, a narrative non-fiction space adventure and There’s a Baddie Running Through this Book.
Described as ‘effervescent’ and commended for leaving the students abuzz, Shelly is quickly making her mark in the industry for sharing her contagious joy of books.
Author Visit-Tania McCartney
Unfortunately, Tania McCartney, visit has been impacted by the current COVID situation and she will be unable to conduct her workshops as planned.
‘Out of this World’ Exhibition, Belconnen Arts Centre- Tues 31st Aug (Years 5/6)
Students in Year 5/6 will now travel to the Belconnen Arts Centre to
participate in a writing workshop and view the current exhibition titled ‘Other Worlds: Exploring the Universe’.
The exhibition is centred around the work of author Graeme Base.
Snuggle Up and Read
Sadly, will we not be able to hold the Snuggle Up and Read event this year due to COVID restrictions. As it is a hugely popular event, we are endeavouring to organise another book event in Term 4.
