Principal's Report

Book Week

We are already halfway through our Book Week celebrations however, there is still more to come with our author visit from Nicole Godwin. Our parade on Monday was a great success with parents enjoying the complimentary coffee from TeamKids. We were so excited to have a parent parade for the first time at St Thomas More's. What a wonderful way for our parents to engage with the joy that comes from Bookweek!

Yesterday our students had a visit from a VIG (very important guest) who read them one of their favourite books. In the evening, we hosted many families in the library for Snuggle up and Read. If you haven't attended Snuggle up and Read before we would highly recommend adding it to your calendar in 2024. It is such a calm, relaxing, cosy time spent as a family with great literature.

Thank you to our amazing librarian Ms Mikkonen for all of her efforts in preparing for Bookweek. Of particular note is the way she inspired our minds by writing a book connecting one of the shortlisted texts, There's No Such Book, to our Xplorer attributes so that the parade could really come to life!

Father's Day Breakfast and Open Classrooms

All families are welcome to join us next Friday 2 September from 8:00 - 8:45 am for our Father's Day Breakfast. Our 5/6G and Kinder families will be cooking up a storm as they serve up complimentary bacon and egg rolls! Once students are settled in class, we will then hold our Open Classrooms from 9:00-10:00 for you to engage in your child's learning. RSVPs for catering can be completed here:

Toys/Items from Home and Supermarket Incentives

Over the past few weeks, we have seen an increase in students bringing toys and other items to school from home. Whilst there are some occasions for this to occur, such as Teddy Bear Tuesday in the library, we would ask that other toys and items are left at home.

With the current marketing push at our large supermarkets, we have also seen an increase in cards and characters at school. The students have been told that they can plan to make a quick trade in the morning before school, if they have had a conversation beforehand, but that cards and characters are to then stay in bags once the trade has happened.

Students leaving at the end of 2023

We would like to remind families who are posting out of Canberra, or choosing alternative schools for their children, in 2024 to notify the school immediately. This will give us the opportunity to make offers of enrolment for classes that are currently full and ensure budgeting for next year is an accurate reflection of our enrolments.
