Staffing News
We are very sad to announce that Lisa Holl has made the difficult decision to resign from her position as Defence Schools Mentor (DSM). Lisa commenced her role as DSM in July of last year and has been a great support to our Defence families and their children. We will miss her warm approach to the children and the pastoral care she provided to our families.
The position of DSM is currently being advertised and closes next week. We are hopeful of having our new DSM commence before the end of the term. If there are any of our defence families requiring support please do not hesitate to contact Julie Ogden or me.
Dance Display - Save the Date October 12

Book Week
Wow! What a wonderful week of celebrating books we had last week. Ms Mikkonen truly embraced her new role of the teacher librarian to ensure there was a special activity each day, an author visit and of course our Book Week Parade. Another highlight of the week was the calm, peaceful time families spent at Snuggle up and Read sharing a hot chocolate and inspiring minds and nurturing hearts with a good book. We can't wait to hear what the theme of Book Week 2023 will be.
2023 Enrolments
We are continuing to accept enrolments for 2023 in the majority of grades. Do you know any families who would be interested in enrolling at St Thomas More's next year? We are particularly interested in enrolling additional Kindergarten children as this may present an opportunity for two small classes in Kindy. An adjustment in enrolments would also ensure the school is prioritised in receiving renovations to our current classrooms. If you know of any families who would be interested in joining our beautiful community please encourage them to make contact with the school or send their details to the front office for us to reach out to them.
Father's Day Breakfast
We look forward to celebrating Father's Day with our families on Friday morning from 8:00 am in the courtyard. Our wonderful 5/6 team of parents will be cooking bacon and egg rolls and at this stage, the weather looks to be a bearable second day of Spring morning. I will be taking leave this Friday so will be unable to attend the event . I wish you all the best for a lovely breakie and extend a Happy Father's Day to all our Dads.
Legacy Week
At our breakfast on Friday, we will be selling merchandise via cash payments for Legacy Week. The Legacy Week appeal has been running since the 1940’s and is a
time for all Australians to show their support for the widows and children whose loved ones have served our country. The Legacy badge is a special emblem of support for our veterans’ families, symbolising our nation’s greatest values of mateship, compassion and fairness. Legacy badges may be little but the funds they raise make a big impact in the lives of our veterans’ families.

BOOK WEEK
“Reading is dreaming with eyes open”.
It certainly was a dream last week with lots of excitement around books. The children enthusiastically participated in the picnic reading led by Year 5 and 6, I spy, Disney day, our author visit and the book character parade.

Picnic Reading
Our Year 5 and 6 leaders shared their love of reading with the school. It was a magnificent sight, children gathered around a book, sitting on a picnic rug, enjoying a book. Special thanks to Year 5 and 6 students for this experience.
Author visit- Amelia McInerney
We were privileged to have Amelia visit our school and share her expertise of writing and creating stories.
She nurtured the hearts of our Kinder, Year One and Year To students with book readings of her picture books and reenactments of her tales. Amelia inspired the minds and writing of our Year Three, Four, Five and Six students.
Some of Amelia’s tips:
Use a journal and write every day. Turn everyday ideas into a story. These become a kernel of truth story. Get excited about ONE idea. Have faith in your ideas. Use your senses to create a text.

Snuggle up and Read
An enjoyable evening was had by families snuggling up with a good book in the library after dark. Some families even braved the crisp, cool air to read outdoors. Thank you for your attendance.

Book Character Parade
The children looked fabulous and thoroughly enjoyed parading in character. Thank you families for your contributions to the costumes.
The week was a great success and the children’s love of books was well and truly alive.

Mr Washington's very' long walk!
Mr Washington is currently training for the Bloody Long Walk which he will complete in November this year. Here are the details from Mr Washington:
I've signed up to walk 35km in The Bloody Long Walk. I'm walking to support people living with mitochondrial disease (mito), a debilitating, terminal disease that affects thousands of Aussie kids and adults. Mito is a cruel disease that can strike anyone at any age. There is no cure. Please support my 35km walk by making a donation through my fundraising page: https://event.bloodylongwalk.com.au/fundraisers/michaelwashington All donations are tax-deductible and a receipt will be sent to you immediately.
Your support will help The Mito Foundation continue its work to improve the lives of people living with mitochondrial disease and fund research to find a cure.
Thank you.
