Swimming Carnival
We are sure there will be some tired students tonight after the excitement of our
swimming carnival today! Thank you to our wonderful Year 5/6 teachers, Mrs. Tarleton and Miss. Tozer for your coordination of the event and to all of our parents who engaged as volunteers on the day. The carnival was a great success because of all of you. As we had a new venue, and it has been some time since our last carnival, we would welcome any feedback you have for the school and Community Council to consider for the carnival in 2024.
Parent Teacher Interviews
We look forward to welcoming parents to school next week for our first Parent Teacher Interviews. The interviews will be an opportunity to discuss your child's work habits, social and emotional development and academic progress. These interviews will be held instead of the teachers preparing an interim report.
WWVP
It is a requirement for all volunteers to hold a WWVP card when working at the school. Attaining a WWVP card is free for volunteers and can be applied for through Access Canberra. If your WWVP card has been renewed, you will need to bring the new card to the office to be copied for our files.
Hats
We have a number of students who are not wearing hats or are relying on spare hats from the lost property box. This is unsafe in terms of sun exposure and unhygienic if students are wearing another person's hat. New hats can be purchased from the front office for $15. We would ask that you ensure your child has their own hat that is clearly labeled.
Returning of Paperwork
Over the past couple of weeks, there have been a number of letters sent home from the front office requesting parents update their child's records and complete medical information required by the school. Please return these forms ASAP so that they can be actioned.
Save the Dates
Don't forget to pop in from 7:30 - 9:30am on Monday morning for Cuppa at the Gate. The Community Council have booked a coffee cart for fresh barista coffee for parents and the clothing pool will be set up for families needing to purchase uniforms.
We will also be sending out RSVPs for our Parish and School Working Bee on Saturday 25 March. The Working Bee will be an opportunity to spruce up our grounds in preparation for our School Registration process at the end of May and the grand opening of our demountable classroom!
2022 NAPLAN Results
With the publication of 2022 NAPLAN results last week you may have read about St Thomas More's in the paper. Our results in 2022 were the highest we have ever achieved with the Herald Sun naming us the top-performing school in Canberra. We are so proud of our students and their achievements and equally proud of our amazing staff who have worked so hard to implement practice that has resulted in improved student outcomes. Our challenge ahead is to continue these strong results over a sustained period of time.

Project Compassion
At our Centred in Faith Gathering last Friday Year Two spoke to us about the Liturgical Season of Lent. They explained to us that Lent is about prayer, fasting and almsgiving. As a community one form of almsgiving at St Thomas More’s that we participate in is raising money for Project Compassion. Spanning across the six weeks of Lent each year, Project Compassion brings thousands of Australian schools, parishes and supporters together to raise funds for people living in some of the most vulnerable communities across the world. Year Two gave each family at St Thomas More’s a Project Compassion box on Friday. Please contact me if your family’s Project Compassion box did not make it home.
Sacrament of First Reconciliation
The celebration of the Sacrament will take place on Saturday 18 March at 11:30am in St Thomas More Church, Campbell.
Parish Mass
This Friday 3rd March 5/6 White and Kindergarten will attend the 10:00am Parish Mass. You are most welcome to join us if your children are in these classes.
Centred In Faith Gathering
3/4 White will run our Centred in Faith Gathering on Friday 10th March. Our Scripture Focus for this year is the ‘Armour of God’ from Ephesians 6:10-18. The students will speak to us about what the Belt of Truth represents.
Yours in Christ,
