Dear Parents and Carers,
We had a wonderful celebration for the St Thomas More Feast Day last Friday. Thank you to the Yr 5/6 students for their work on the day; the Kinder to Yr 4 students enjoyed the Science-based activities. Thanks also to the parents who cooked, served and cleaned up on the day. It was very much appreciated.

I will be taking Long Service Leave for the first 7 weeks of Term 3. Ms Nicole Mikkonen will be Acting Principal, Mrs Donna Victory will be the Acting Assistant Principal and Mrs Samantha Mance will be Acting Religious Education Coordinator during my absence. Arrangements have been made so that there is minimal impact to classes. I feel very reassured knowing Nicole, Donna and Sam will be leading the school during my time away; STM is in very capable hands.
First Holy Communion
Congratulations to the students who received the Sacrament of Eucharist on Sunday. Thank you to Fr Josh, Mrs Gwen Tarleton, Mrs Samantha Mance, Mrs Helen Bramanathan and Mrs Donna Victory for working with the students to ensure they were prepared and ready to receive Jesus.
Prayer Assembly
Yr 3/4’s prayer assembly will be this Friday at 9am, in Holy Faith Hall. The Yr 3’s will take a leading role in this assembly.
School Counsellor
I have just been advised that our school counsellor will not be returning to us next term; we will have someone new. As soon as I know who that is, I will let you know.
Super Sports Day
On the last day of school this term, the students are allowed to wear their sporting team colours/uniform/jumpers, etc for our “Super Sports Day”. (Students are not to wear football boots; however, they can wear their runners). There will be a pie/sausage roll lunch that day; notes are to be returned by next Tuesday.
Parent/Teacher Interviews
Parent/Teacher Interviews will be held next Tuesday and Wednesday. Bookings are online via the link below;

One Community
in God’s Love
We are a EUCHARISTIC Community
Welcome to week 9.
This week, Year 3/4 students will be leading Prayer Assembly and sharing their understanding on what it means to be a ‘EUCHARISTIC’ member of St Thomas More’s School community.
I would like to thank Mrs Tarleton, Mrs Mance and Year 3/4 students for leading Prayer Assembly for our community this week.
I would also like to thank Mrs Neiufi and Kindergarten students for leading Prayer Assembly in Week 7. It is very heartwarming to see our students being ‘Centred in Faith’ and willing to express their faith to everyone in our community.
As this term is coming to a close, I would like to share some ways we have been ‘EUCHARISTIC’ toward each other.
- Giving Back ~ Food hamper donations for the homeless; Mini Vinnie donations for Winter Warmers.
- Gratitude ~ keeping a gratitude journal in class and reflecting on all the good things we have in life; remembering to use ‘please’ and ‘thankyou’ in conversations.
- Empathy ~ walking in other people’s shoes and seeing a situation through their eyes – often done in collaborative tasks when students listen to other people’s ideas and / or on the playground when students include others in games.
- Kindness ~ when we can be anything in this world, at St Thomas More’s School, we choose to be kind.
Thank you for your generous donations this term, whether that be through food, winter warmers or donating your time to school events. Your support is very much appreciated.
Last Friday was St Thomas More’s Feast Day and our school community definitely celebrated our patron Saint through Mass, STEM activities and a sausage sizzle.
Our amazing school leaders designed STEM challenges for students in K – 4. There are photos uploaded to STM Facebook page if you would like to look.
There was lots of fun, laughter, collaboration and a sense of community amongst all. We finished our celebrations with a sausage sizzle organised by Kinder and Year 1 parents.
A very big thank you from all of us to all of you!
Have a wonderful holiday with your family.
Donna Victory

Congratulations to Sophie and all Year 5/6 students who prepared speeches.
Congratulations to Tara Holmes who will be competing in the National Swimming Trials to be held in Melbourne. Tara represented STM in the Combined ACT Swimming Carnival and was selected to be a part of the ACT Swimming Squad.
Congratulations to Kobe Wood and Tara for competing in the combined ACT Cross Country carnival held recently at Stromlo Park.

Our visit to Southern Cross Care on Friday 14 June was excellent. Our Disney Show included seven performances with a range of dances, plays and comedies. The delighted looks on some of the residents faces made for the magic that would have made Walt Disney proud. Everyone, young and old, enjoyed the interaction with the Disney Quiz designed by Isabelle Gibb. Well done to Mini Vinnies for your teamwork and your sharing of the gift of joy.
Our next Mini Vinnies Meeting will be Thursday, 27 June. The SVdP Night Patrol Van will be visiting to show us the van and tell us about what they do. Your donations for the SVdP Winter Clothing Appeal and Winter Woollies will be given to the Night Patrol Van.
Thank you very much to all families who were able to donate items towards the SVdP Winter Clothing Appeal and Winter Woollies. The second hand clothing either directly helps struggling families and individuals or is distributed to the Vinnies Stores to help generate revenue for St Vincent de Paul’s work within the community. The SVdP Night Patrol Van has been operating in Canberra region since 2001 and provides a mobile outreach service almost every day of the year for people experiencing homelessness. The Night Patrol teams are made up of enthusiastic and compassionate volunteers from within the community who offer light refreshments and essential material items.
Seasons for Growth
The first session for Seasons for Growth will be this Friday, 28 June 2019.
