Homework Process - Revised Term 3 2023
As a result of our survey responses, staff discussion and discussion at our last School Community Council meeting, the following guidelines concerning homework is set:
- At STM we set homework tasks.
- Homework is valued by staff, parents, and students.
- Homework will be set for all students.
- Homework will be acknowledged by the class teacher when submitted.
- There is no disciplinary action or consequences for not completing homework tasks.
- 15-20 mins reading a night is expected for all grades.
- Homework tasks will be set to include a weekend to enable families to complete set tasks and balance their extracurricular and family commitments.
Structure of Homework Across the School
Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2– reading, tricky words, nightly repetition of these and tasks that consolidate class learning.
Year 3 and 4- fortnightly homework which includes maths and spelling tasks as well as an Xplore More task related to a project type presentation at the end of the term.
Year 5 and 6 – continue with a self-paced structure of homework in preparation for high school.
Thank you for your contributions to our homework process and statement of practice.

WYD Pilgrims
Andrea McQuirk and Brittney Elliot spent the afternoon with the teaching staff last Tuesday sharing with us their experiences as World Youth Day Pilgrims earlier this term. They both described several instances when God met them personally during the pilgrimage and how this fostered their living relationship with God.
Sacrament of Confirmation
Enrolment for those students interested in preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation will take place on the 10th of September at our 9.30 am Parish Mass. This Sacrament is for those in Year 6. The Sacrament will be celebrated on Sunday 29 October at the 9.30 Mass.
Centred in Faith Gatherings
We have made a change to the classes allocated to our Centred in Faith Gatherings. Originally 5/6 White were going to run our Centred in Faith Gathering on the 8th of September. Year 2 are now going to run this gathering to talk to the school community about the significance of the Rosary. 5/6 White will run the Centred in Faith Gathering on the 22nd of September. They will describe how we can know what God desires of us through the power and the workings of the Holy Spirit. This adjustment has been made on the calendar on our website.
Parish Mass
5.6 White and Kindergarten will attend the Parish Mass on Friday 1st of September. Families of children in these classes are most welcome to attend.

On Monday 28th August our whole school was able to witness the Legacy Torch pass through Campbell. This year marks 100 years of Legacy and to commemorate the occasion the centenary torch relay started in France on April 23rd. It has since been to England and all over Australia. The weather eventually cleared, and our school was able to watch the flame exchange near the oval. Our Principal Mr Luke Donnelly and our two School Captains Isaac White and Olive Moufarrige accompanied the torch from Vasey Cres to Truscott Street symbolising our schools ongoing Defence link.

Last week we held our paint a plate fundraiser and raised over $175 to send to Legacy. We would like to take the opportunity to thank Mhanda van Englen for helping to organise and run this event behind the scenes and on the day. Thank you Mhanda. Finally, a very happy Father's Day to all our Dads for this Sunday!
